Fragments from the late Roman and Islamic periods have been found, while a Roman villa also existed nearby. After the fall of the Empire, it was controlled by the Visigoths, and briefly by the Byzantines, and would finally be controlled by the Muslims under the Pact of Theodomir. At this time it will have been called al-Muwalladín and was a farming area of relative importance. St Andrews Church, El Paseo Almoradi Old Theatre On March 21, 1829, the Torrevieja earthquake devastated the town, leaving 192 fatalities and numerous injuries. This fact resulted in the creation of a new urban plan with straight lines and wide streets designed by the engineer José Agustín de Larramendi. The works, however, were delayed due to the reluctance of some landowners to sell the land, so the first 89 houses were not delivered until October 1830 and the total reconstruction did not take place until March 1832. Almoradi Casino Almoradi Old Hospital Due to its central geographical location in the region, Almoradí is referred to as the "Heart of the Vega Baja". It is, in fact, located in the center of the great alluvial plain of the Segura River, which borders the urban area for just over a kilometer. The municipality has approximately twenty plazas spread throughout the municipality. Among them, the Plaza de la Constitución (popularly known as "El Paseo") stands out, which was conceived following the 1829 earthquake as the nerve centre of the municipality, a function that it continues to perform today.
